SALARY:

 

$21.85 to $25.00+ per hour, the posted salary range represents the minimum to the midpoint within RVU’s compensation plan. RVU’s full compensation structure provides a minimum to a maximum range.  The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Primary Purpose

The Facilities and Grounds Technician performs a variety of maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping duties to support the safe, functional, and well-maintained operation of the Rocky Vista University campus. Under the general direction of the Manager of Facilities and Grounds, this position assists with the maintenance and upkeep of campus buildings, grounds, equipment, and related facilities; supports campus events and daily operations; and provides backup assistance to the Manager of Facilities and Grounds, Senior Facilities and Grounds Technicians, and the Shipping and Receiving Department. This position reports to the Manager of Facilities and Grounds.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of the Rocky Vista University Colorado campus through the performance of routine facilities, grounds, and maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, testing, and maintenance activities for campus safety systems at RVU Colorado.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining schedules for routine facility inspections, preventive maintenance, and recurring maintenance activities.
  • Assist senior Facilities and Grounds Technicians as needed.
  • Monitor facility conditions and submit maintenance project requests to the Manager of Facilities and Grounds to support the safe and efficient operation of the campus.
  • Assist the Manager of Facilities and Grounds and Facilities team in maintaining plans and schedules that support 24/7 campus operations, including building use, custodial services, grounds, maintenance, safety, and emergency response.
  • Ensure operation and upkeep of vehicles and equipment owned by RVU.
  • Prepare, arrange, and restore campus facilities for use by university departments and organizations, including event setup, teardown, and cleanup.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating snow removal activities, and remove snow and ice from campus walkways, entrances, and other designated areas using shovels and light equipment.
  • Assist with monitoring, maintaining, and repairing the campus irrigation system and grounds.
  • Read and interpret basic architectural and engineering drawings, plans, and schematics to support maintenance, repair, and construction activities.
  • Pick up and deliver laundry to support campus operations.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving activities, including the receipt, delivery, and distribution of packages, materials, and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of facilities and grounds maintenance including snow removaland lawn care.
  • Good organizational skills – ability to come up with processes and follow up.
  • Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Safely operate and maintain power tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Demonstrate professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work with confidential material with a high level of attention to detail and discretion.
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team-based diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Demonstrate effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; climbing ladders up to 20 feet; walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods; and working in all weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Up to 1-year job-related experience in the areas of maintenance and/or facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of applicable trades courses.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience with the maintenance, facilities, and monitoring of a facility operating system.
