SALARY: $27.20 - $33.25 per hour. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

 

BONUS; $3200 Sign-On Bonus after a successful completion of 90 days.

Primary Purpose

The Facilities & Grounds Senior Technician – RVU Ranch supports the daily operations, maintenance, and improvement of Rocky Vista University's 40-acre ranch property. Reporting to the Manager of Facilities & Grounds, this role is responsible for maintaining barns, arenas, pastures, and related infrastructure, ensuring a safe and functional environment for all facility users. The Senior Technician oversees grounds and equipment upkeep, coordinates repairs, and ensures the property meets university standards for safety, cleanliness, and reliability.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform routine, corrective, and preventive maintenance on barns, fencing, arenas, stables, and outbuildings.
  • Inspect and maintain the septic system, water systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Operate and maintain farm and grounds equipment, including tractors, skid steers, attachments, and trailers.
  • Monitor, repair, and maintain lighting, plumbing, and basic electrical systems in barns and auxiliary structures.
  • Collaborate with contractors, vendors, staff, and faculty to support campus operations.
  • Recommend improvements related to contracted services and oversee their work (e.g., electrical, plumbing, landscaping).
  • Perform seasonal property maintenance such as snow removal, mowing, and drainage management.
  • Assist in planning and decision-making to ensure the safety, functionality, and appearance of the Montana ranch Facilities and Grounds.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and consumables; ensure all work is logged and documented.
  • Support safety compliance, inspections, and preventive maintenance planning.
  • Assist with special events or activities hosted at the facility, including setup and tear-down.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of grounds, building, and ranch facility systems.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining agricultural or grounds equipment.
  • Ability to perform hands-on maintenance across multiple trades (mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.).
  • Comfortable working outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and recordkeeping skills.
  • Professional demeanor with discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to safety and animal-friendly work practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and facility management software.
  • Ability to assist in building a culture that respects, values, and promotes inclusion.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.; climb 25-foot ladder; and work in all weather conditions with our without an accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of facilities, ranch, or agricultural maintenance experience.
  • Experience operating and maintaining farm equipment (tractor, skid steer, etc.).
  • Experience working around large animals.
  • Valid Drivers License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited institution OR technical training in maintenance, construction, or related field.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, septic systems, and basic electrical systems.
  • Experience supervising contractors or vendors.
