SALARY:

 

$82,000 to $100,100 per year. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Primary Purpose

The Associate Director of SIMS will support the Director of the Office of SIMS in providing support for simulation operations and technology including the execution of simulation-based healthcare training, and gathering data collected during scenarios. The Associate Director of Simulation is responsible for supporting the setup, takedown, moulage, scheduling and programming of requested simulations. They will also collaborate with stakeholders in the delivery of program curricula, scenarios, and associated material.

 

The Associate Director will work closely with the Director of SIMS in the operations and advancement of recruitment, supervision and evaluation staff involved in standardized patients and simulation.

 

 

Provide support to department in the navigation an use of CANVAS platform for curriculum access and use.

Essential Job Functions

  • Direct and manage the operations of the Office Simulation in Medicine and Surgery on the Southern Utah campus, while providing leadership and supervision to direct reports and events that involve both campuses.
  • Provide support to the faculty and staff, and course facilitators, in curriculum development of simulation-based activities.
  • Direct and lead updates and subscriptions of EMS SIMIQ clinical management operating platform and simulation software including, but not limited to, Laerdal, Oxford, Perspectus, Guamard, CAE, Etc. Enter information into EMS SIMiQ for simulation-based scenarios.
  • Provide leadership and training opportunities for staff regarding any logistical issue(s) that arise immediately prior to, or during, simulation activities and formulate and enact a solution to the issue.
  • Provide oversight of ongoing simulation curriculum implementation.
  • Help facilitate the directing of technology and simulation best-practice training for faculty and staff.
  • Work with technicians in maintaining simulation equipment in good working condition.
  • Keep apprised of emerging technologies affecting simulation and make recommendations on new technologies, support RVU faculty and course facilitators to develop new and ongoing simulation events.
  • Oversee the operation of Standardized Patient Encounters for all Programs and learners on the Colorado and Utah Campuses- including recruitment, supervision, evaluation, assessment and payroll of Standardized Patient Encounters, staffing agency (currently WSi), SIMS Staff and actors in CO and UT.
  • Work with RVU leadership, faculty, and other staff and stakeholders to prepare documentation to ensure continued accreditation by the American College of Surgeons as a Comprehensive Accredited Education Institute (ACS AEI).
  • Oversee and manage the budget for the Office of SIMS on the UT campus.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the development within the Office of SIMS, including operations, growth, and curriculum development.
  • Direct and manage direct reports across both campuses including, but not limited to, coordinators, simulation technologists, and administrative assistants.
  • Provide leadership, development, and advancement to staff while maintaining and recruiting team members.
  • Collaborate at a national level to continue to expand RVU’s connection within the national simulation community.

Marginal Job Functions

  • Day-to-day operational oversight of the department.
  • Requisition and management of supplies required for operations of the center.
  • Day-to-day management of the budget.
  • Responsibility for timesheet oversight for standardized patients.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of patient simulation technologies.
  • Ability to cooperate with and interact with various constituents.
  • Management skills and experience in the operation of the center.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of information.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Products.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience.
  • Supervisory experience in a medical or academic setting.
  • Strong leadership ability, teaching skills, flexibility, organizational skills, attention to details, interpersonal skills, analytical, interpretive and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with project and office management.
  • Experience managing a larger budget including multiple sites and capital expenditures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or higher from an accredited institution preferred in health related field.
  • Teaching degree from an accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of simulation software.
  • Medical background.
  • Knowledge of data capture systems (EMS, SimiQ).
  • Experience in medical simulation curriculum development.
  • Understanding of adult learning theory.
  • CHSE or CHOS certificate.
