SALARY:

 

$21.85 - $23.50 per hour. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Primary Purpose

The Facilities and Grounds Technician is responsible for, under general direction of the Manager of Facilities and Grounds, the planning, coordination, and assist in overseeing the operation of RVU's facility, including custodial and grounds, lighting system monitoring, and the safety and coordination of campus usage. This position provides backup and support to the Manager of Facilities and Grounds as well as the Facilities and Grounds Sr. Technicians, the Shipping and Receiving Dept., and the Security Department. This position reports to the Manager of Facilities and Grounds.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in or coordinate the overall planning and decision-making for maintaining the safety, utility and appearance of RVU Utah.
  • Keep records of inspections and maintenance records of all safety systems within RVU Utah.
  • Assists in creating a schedule or timetable of regular evaluations of the facility, and regular maintenance.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements and modifications associated with the custodial staff.
  • Assists in scheduling the work of outside contractors and vendors, specifically, landscaping, plumbing, lighting, door closures, and security related issues, including inspection and completion.
  • Monitor and maintain Lighting schedule while providing support and backup to the Sr. Technician, with the maintenance of the HVAC management system.
  • Submit requests to the Manager of Facilities and Grounds for maintenance projects.
  • Assists the Manager of Facilities and Grounds and all technicians in developing and maintaining a plan for 24-7 coverage relating to building usage, custodial, grounds, maintenance, safety and emergencies.
  • Oversees the usage of facilities by RVU Utah personnel/groups and organizations within the university: set-ups, tear downs, and clean-up.
  • Monitors and maintains the irrigation system and grounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Marginal Job Functions

  • Assist administration, faculty and staff in special projects as needed under the direction of the Manager.
  • Continue education programs through plumbing and lighting vendors, keeping RVU Utah up to code standards related to plumbing and lighting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good organizational skills – ability to assess processes and follow up.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Safely operate and maintain power tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work with confidential material with a high level of attention to detail and discretion
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team-based diverse environment.
  • Demonstrate effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion and capable of lifting up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders of various heights.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Up to six (6) months job-related experience in the areas of maintenance and/or facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some coursework in construction management, electrical, HVAC, plumbing or other facility related subjects and one (1) - two (2) years of experience in hands on maintenance, landscaping or facilities duties.
  • More than six (6) months of experience with the maintenance, facilities, and monitoring of a facility operating system.
