SALARY:

 

$98,000 to $125,100+ per year depending on experience. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to faculty rank, skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Primary Purpose

The Assistant Director of Research and Scholarly Activity will provide local leadership, guidance, and support to students and employees at the Rocky Vista University (RVU) - Montana campus, fostering a culture of research excellence. This position will focus on mentoring and supporting research on the RVU Montana campus while collaborating closely with the Vice Provost for Research and Scholarly Activity (RSA) and other members of the RSA office.   The Assistant Director of Research and Scholarly Activity will oversee the day-to-day operations of research and scholarly activity on the RVU-Montana campus. Responsibilities will include training and mentoring employees and students at all levels, managing the wet lab resources, including training on equipment and equipment maintenance. Additionally, the Assistant Director will be responsible for budget planning and management, strategic planning and implementation, assessment, and overseeing accreditation processes and compliance for the RVU-Montana campus.. Through proactive leadership and both internal and external partnerships, the Assistant Director will play a key role in advancing the research mission of RVU locally and system wide.

Essential Job Functions

  • Proactively communicate with and inform the Vice Provost of Research and Scholarly Activity of issues or concerns relating to compliance activities and procedures.
  • Partner with RVU-Montana leaders and faculty to support research and scholarly activities.
  • Provide reports of research activities on the RVU-Montana upon request (e.g. Dean’s Council meetings).
  • Lead and manage RSA events (e.g. Research Week, poster competitions, etc.) on the RVU-Montana campus.
  • Ensure visibility and access of the RSA Office and its services on the RVU-Montana campus.
  • Provide training to students on how to start a research or scholarly activity project.
  • Provide mentoring to students and employees on research and scholarly activities as reasonably needed.
  • Maintain and actively participate in personal research and scholarly interests.
  • Participate in University and campus committees.
  • Manage the campus wet lab, including maintain instruments and training individuals.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in budgeting and managing campus specific research funds.
  • Promote, and encourage research and scholarly activities.
  • Participate in curriculum development and contribute to teaching subject matter of expertise.
  • Contribute to assessment and accreditation reports.
  • Provide input on Office of Research strategic vision.
  • Help build a culture that respects, values, and promotes inclusive excellence.
  • Other duties as requested by the Vice Provost of Research and Scholarly Activity.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven collaborative skills.
  • Working knowledge of good research practices.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with computer and necessary software.
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to foster strong relationships both internally with faculty and leadership and externally in the community.
  • Research and reporting skills.
  • Track record of leadership on Inclusive Excellence initiatives to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for faculty, staff and students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A research PhD from an accredited institution in a scientific discipline.
  • A proven track record of research and scholarly activity.
  • A history of successfully mentoring students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with accreditation processes.
  • Experience mentoring faculty.
