We are looking for someone to help establish the Montana College of Veterinary Medicine, a branch campus of Rocky Vista University.

SALARY:

 

$154,500 - $195,500+ per year, depending on rank and experience. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials. Specifically, Faculty salary is determined by these factors as well as Faculty Rank which will be determined by the RVU Rank and Promotion committee

Primary Purpose

Come join the Rocky Vista University College of Veterinary Medicine as the Assistant Dean for student research, pre-clinical electives, professional skills and clinical skills education. We are seeking an innovative veterinary leader with practice, research, and entrepreneurial experience that is passionate about advancing DVM student pre-clinical learning in student-centered, active learning model. This Assistant Dean role will lead a team that is dedicated to creating an inclusive learning environment during the pre-clinical phase of education in the DVM program, ensuring that all students are prepared to reach their educational, career, and personal goals. The Assistant Dean serves as one of the lead advocates for student learning during the pre-clinical years. As a member of the College Executive Team, the Assistant Dean will provide leadership in the development, implementation and continuous evaluation of multiple facets of the pre-clinical veterinary education. The Assistant Dean reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Faculty Research. Under the direction of the Associate Dean, the Assistant Dean will ensure that the experiential and laboratory components of the pre-clinical curriculum is coordinated with the didactic portions of the pre-clinical DVM curriculum, and that the pre-clinical curriculum meets all requirements of the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education, as well as complies with all Rocky Vista University's policies and procedures. A critical role of the position is to develop and maintain relationships with pre-clinical affiliates, partners, and veterinarians that provide the pre-clinical resources for student learning. The Assistant Dean will work closely with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs to coordinate student services support as well as policy development and implementation. Additionally, the Assistant Dean will also deeply engage with the Vice President for Inclusive Excellence to provide a learning environment that demonstrates diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Essential Job Functions

  • Serves as a member of the Dean's leadership team; in that role assists in the development of the College mission, vision and values. Serve as an exemplar and champion for advancement of the College in alignment with our values.
  • Serves as an advocate for student learning in the pre-clinical years.
  • Responsible for the development and oversight of a hands-on active learning pre-clinical education model for DVM students.
  • Development, oversight, and maintenance of vital relationships with external partners to ensure DVM students have the resources necessary to be day one ready for their clinical rotations.
  • Supervision of the Faculty and Staff responsible for student research, pre-clinical electives, and clinical/professional skills experiences. This includes hiring and recruitment activities, performance management, schedule and time management, and employee engagement and retention.
  • Ensure that the aforementioned pre-clinical resources and educational model meet the AVMA COE standards of accreditation.
  • Provide leadership to develop policies and procedures as related to the pre-clinical years of instruction.
  • Provide advocacy and, in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Faculty Research, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, and the Vice President for Inclusive Excellence, develop academic plans for students who may be experiencing academic and/or personal difficulties during the pre-clinical years of education.
  • Contribute to the annual budget process to establish budgetary frameworks and manage daily operations of assigned programs to meet budgetary expectations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience specifically in regard to undergraduate veterinary medical education.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of core competencies, Entrustable Professional Activities, and other veterinary medical educational milestones.
  • Demonstrate time management and organizational skills while on-campus and off-campus during clinical site visit travels.
  • Demonstrate ability to address problems appropriately and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and established experience in public speaking and writing.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers, electronics, and software (Microsoft products, PDF, etc.) commensurate with the modern work environment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and professionalism in video conferencing, speaking, and teaching.
  • Involvement with state or national organizations.
  • Track record of leadership on Inclusive Excellence initiatives to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for faculty, staff and students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • DVM from an accredited institution.
  • Ten (10) years minimum working as a Practicing Veterinarian.
  • Three (3)-five (5) years minimum and ongoing Veterinary practice ownership and business development experience,
  • Three (3)-five (5) years minimum and ongoing demonstrated leadership experience in professional organizations including management of multiple Veterinary employees
  • Three (3)-five (5) years minimum and ongoing demonstrated experience with innovation and research in the profession.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3)-five (5) years minimum and ongoing demonstrated engagement in undergraduate or graduate Veterinary Education.
