SALARY: 

 

$38,037 - $48,000+, the posted salary range represents the minimum to the midpoint within RVU’s compensation plan. RVU’s full compensation structure provides a minimum to a maximum range.  The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Primary Purpose

The Surgery clerkship director administers the 3rd year Surgery core clerkship by overseeing the delivery of all components of the Surgery core curriculum, developing appropriate Surgery content for years 1 and 2, and providing clinical career advising/NRMP match support for Surgery.

Essential Job Functions

  • Demonstrate an active and consistent commitment to the mission of Rocky Vista University and its College of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Responsible for development and oversight of all aspects of the 3rd year Surgery core curriculum including clinical assessment.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with Surgery core clinical faculty and health care executives in the RVU-MCOM regions with the goal of advancing quality Surgery clinical rotations.
  • Recruit clinical faculty to create and support quality Surgery clinical rotations.
  • Works in conjunction with the Associate Dean/Clinical Affairs and other medical educators to develop appropriate faculty development for the Surgery adjunct faculty.
  • Participate in clerkship rotation site visits and inspections to ensure quality student experiences and for faculty compliance to the Clinical Education Manual.
  • Works in conjunction with Clinical Education leadership in developing a strong didactic component for the core Surgery clerkship.
  • Assists in the development of assessment tools including standardized patients for evaluation of Surgery competencies.
  • Serves as the liaison between RVU-MCOM Clinical Education and Surgery Preceptors.
  • Help oversee evaluations of adjunct clinical faculty for clerkship rotations, in the assigned region(s).
  • Assure the advancement and integration of high standards for ethical and professional behavior in all aspects for RVU-MCOM, students, and personnel.
  • Participate in institutional and committee meetings as designated by the Clinical Dean or Campus Dean.
  • Participate in student interviews, career advising, and residency match support.
  • Help build a culture that respects, values, and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.  

  • Other duties as assigned by the Clinical Dean or Campus Dean.

  • Well known and reputable in the medical community.
  • Demonstrations of professional involvement and leadership in medical organizations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing inclusive excellence and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • D.O. or M.D. degree earned from an AOA or LCME accredited college of osteopathic or allopathic medicine.
  • Board certification in Surgery.
  • One (1) - two (2) years of experience in medical education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AOA Board certification.
  • ABMS Board certification.
  • Maintenance of a medical license.
  • Four (4) - six (6) years of experience in medical education.
  • Previous work experience in a medical school.
