SALARY:

 

$83,000-$107,900 + per year DOE and Faculty Rank, if applicable, the posted salary range represents the minimum to the midpoint within RVU’s compensation plan.   RVU’s full compensation structure provides a minimum to a maximum range.  The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Primary Purpose

Coordinate and manage the preclinical COM curriculum in coordination with the Director of Preclinical Education for the Utah Campus.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist and provide feedback to Pre-Clinical COM course directors for the supervision and execution of Pre-Clinical courses, including assistance with course planning, scheduling of academic teaching events, communication with guest teaching faculty, interfacing with the Office of Testing, finalization of grades, delivering the end of course report to the COM curriculum committee (DOCC), addressing student needs and concerns, and completing curriculum assessment.
  • Monitor, assess, and meet with students with course failures or otherwise have academic difficulties, including the planning of remediation or the referral to the Student Performance Committee and/or the Dean, as policy requires.
  • Create, refine, and maintain Pre-Clinical COM academic calendar, daily schedule, and global block schedules.
  • Reserve space necessary for the delivery of the Pre-Clinical COM curriculum.
  • In support of both Pre-Clinical COM student support and curriculum delivery, serve as a liaison with Office of Testing, Registrar’s Office, IT, Financial Aid, Department of Clinical Education, Department of Student Affairs, Department Chairs, Student Performance Committee, Student Leaders, Department of Tracks and Special Programs, Administration, and Faculty.
  • Review and approve/reject all UT student excused absence requests from required academic events.
  • Coordinate makeup and remediation examinations with the testing center and course directors.
  • Interface with and provide support to guest faculty as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between students and administration for issues and questions concerning the curriculum, schedule, academic and personal issues, excused absences, and COM activities.
  • Assist in the preparation for and with actual visits by accrediting bodies.
  • For faculty appointment ONLY:
    • Provide education, mentorship, and guidance to students in a variety of settings, including the classroom, clinic, laboratory, and simulation center in the area of physiology.
    • Provide service to the University and the greater community by serving on committees, providing leadership, participating in community outreach events and working with professional organizations or groups.
    • Engage in scholarly activity, including research, authorship, presentations at conferences, and mentorship of students in their scholarly activities.
  • For staff appointment ONLY:
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and service on special projects that relate to preclinical education, including assessment, curriculum design, and curriculum management.
    • Provide service to the University and the greater community by serving on committees and participating in professional organizations.
    • Engage in professional development to improve and enhance personal skills and knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Preclinical Curriculum, the Assistant Dean of Preclinical Program Assessment, the COM Dean and/or their designee.

Marginal Job Functions

  • Assist administration, faculty and staff in special projects as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the delivery of medical education.
  • Track record of leadership on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for faculty, staff and students.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of varied curricular structures and modalities.
  • Demonstrate ability to mentor and motivate students and peers.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and advanced skill with various types of software, including Learning Management Systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Work, Excel, Teams), web forms, and others, as needed.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude to deploy new technologies as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD Terminal degree: PhD, DO, MD, or equivalent doctorate degree for faculty appointment
  • Master’s Degree in relevant field for a staff appointment.
  • Three (3) years academic experience as a full-time faculty member in higher education (for faculty appointment) OR three (3) years experience as a full-time staff member in higher education (for staff appointment).
  • Demonstrated leadership and productivity in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years academic experience as a full-time faculty member at a medical school OR Two (2) years academic experience as a full-time staff member in a leadership role at a medical school
  • Experience as a Course Director at a medical school.
  • Experience with college accreditation.
  • Experience with testing and assessment.
