SALARY AND BENEFITS:

 

The posted salary range represents the minimum to the midpoint within RVU’s compensation plan.   RVU’s full compensation structure provides a minimum to a maximum range.  The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Primary Purpose

The Facilities and Grounds Technician is responsible for, under general direction of the Assistant Director of Facilities and Grounds, the planning, coordination, and overseeing the operation of RVU Utah’s facility, including custodial and grounds, lighting system monitoring, and the safety and coordination of campus usage.  This position provides back up and support to the Assistant Director of Facilities and Grounds as well as the Facilities and Grounds Sr. Technicians, the Shipping and Receiving Dept., and the Security Department.  This position reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities and Grounds.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Assist in or coordinate the overall planning and decision-making for maintaining the safety, utility and appearance of RVU Utah.
  2. Keep records of inspections and maintenance records of all safety systems within RVU Utah.
  3. Assists in creating a schedule or timetable of regular evaluations of the facility, and regular maintenance.
  4. Makes recommendations for improvements and modifications associated with the custodial staff.
  5. Assists in supervising the work of outside contractors and vendors, specifically, plumbing, lighting, door closures, and security related issues, including inspection and completion.
  6. Monitor and maintain Lighting schedule while providing support and backup to the Sr. Technician, with the maintenance of the HVAC management system.
  7. Submit requests to the Assistant Director of Facilities and Grounds, for maintenance projects.
  8. Assists the Assistant Director and all technicians in developing and maintaining a plan for 24-7 coverage relating to building usage, custodial, grounds, maintenance, safety and emergencies.
  9. Ensure operation, and upkeep to vehicles and equipment owned by RVU.
  10. Oversees the usage of facilities by RVU Utah personnel/groups and organizations within the university: set-ups, teardowns, and clean-up.
  11. Oversee snow removal issues and scheduling.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned

Marginal Job Functions

  1. Assist administration, faculty and staff in special projects as needed.
  2. Continue education programs through plumbing and lighting vendors, keeping RVU Utah up to code standards related to plumbing and lighting needs currently, and in the future.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Good organizational skills – ability to come up with processes and follow up.
  2. Outstanding communication skills
  3. Demonstrate knowledge and computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  4. Demonstrate professional demeanor.
  5. Ability to work with confidential material with a high level of attention to detail and discretion
  6. Ability to multi-task and problem solve.
  7. Must be able to work effectively in a team-based diverse environment.
  8. Demonstrate effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma 
  2. One year of progressively responsible experience in maintenance and operations and/or facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. 1-3 years of electronic training with an understanding of electrical and electronic diagrams.
  2. Experience with the maintenance and monitoring of a facility operating system.
  3. Familiar with Paxton System, operating, software or a similar system.
