The posted salary range represents the minimum to the midpoint within RVU’s compensation plan.   RVU’s full compensation structure provides a minimum to a maximum range.  The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Primary Purpose

The Director of Clinical Education, Principal Faculty for the Physician Assistant Program will work closely with the Program Director to provide oversight and direction in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the PA Programs’ clinical education curriculum.  In addition, this role will collaborate with members of the institution’s Department of Clinical Education to develop and maintain processes that ensure integration of student clinical assignments and development of preceptors and clinical sites, where possible. 

Essential Job Functions


  1. Provide oversight in the implementation of a clinical curriculum emphasizing achievement of clinical competencies
  2. Develop mechanisms that ensure the PA program clinical curriculum meets ARC-PA standards, in collaboration with the PA Program Director
  3. Implement clinical learning strategies consistent with the Mission and Goals of the program
  4. Develop and implement a continuous process of self-assessment that is consistent with the PA programs’ self-study plan and that ensures quality of the clinical curriculum, in collaboration with the PA Program Director
  5. Develop clinical sites and preceptors for the PA program and in collaboration with members of RVU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) whenever possible
  6. Implement clinical rotation scheduling process for the PA program and collaborate with members of RVU COM to ensure seamless placement of learners
  7. Collaborate with the PA faculty Director of Curriculum to ensure integration of curricula
  8. Collaborate with University Senior Administration, the PA Advisory Council, medical director, faculty, and staff in activities related to the clinical curriculum
  9. Liaise with appropriate offices and departments involved in medical/health education and with external agencies useful to the program’s clinical curriculum
  10. Manage the clinical tracking system
  11. Provide input regarding PA clinical team performance on mid-year and annual evaluations
  12. Ensure clinical faculty members are appropriately oriented to the program mission and goals, specific teaching responsibilities, program instructional resources, and the learning objectives for which they are responsible



  1. Deliver curricular content within the PA program, including, but not limited to:
    1. Serving as course director for clinical phase courses
  2. Develop and deliver lectures, laboratories, and small group interactive sessions through varied delivery methods
  3. Develop, implement, and score competency-based assessments
  4. Serve as student advisor to PA students during the clinical phase of training



  1. Serve on PA program and University committees according to assigned duties and professional interest.
  2. Attend PA Program faculty meetings, retreats, and accreditation-related events
  3. Participate in all aspects of program Admissions (file review, interviewing, and selections)
  4. Participate in activities of state, regional, and national organizations to promote a positive image of the PA concept within academic, lay, and professional communities


  1. Engage in scholarship and faculty development including original research, publications, presentations, and workshop participation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Current expertise in clinical curriculum content associated with Physician Assistant or medical training
  2. Ability to develop effective community and institutional relationships and partnerships
  3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
  4. Demonstrated ability to adapt to change
  5. Effective written and oral communication skills
  6. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, and manage competing deadlines, and bring projects to successful completion with limited oversight
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Terminal degree for profession and related to position (e.g. Master degree for PA, MD/DO for physician)
  2. Current license (or eligibility) to practice in Colorado
  3. Ability to travel to clinical sites within and external to the Denver/Metro area

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  2. Previous experience as a clinical preceptor or clinical coordinator
  3. Previous supervisory or management experience
  4. Experience delivering curriculum content to PA students (clinical or didactic).
  5. Experience using a variety of academic learning systems (Canvas, BlackBoard).
  6. Clinical experience of 3-5 years.
