Primary Purpose

The Facilities and Grounds Technician is responsible for, under general direction of the Manager of Facilities and Grounds, the planning, coordination, and overseeing the operation of RVU Utah’s facility, including custodial and grounds, lighting system monitoring, and the safety and coordination of campus usage.  This position provides assistance and support to the Manager of Facilities and Grounds as well as the Facilities and Grounds Sr. Technicians, Shipping and Receiving., and the Security Department.  This position reports to the Manager of Facilities and Grounds.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Assist in or coordinate the overall planning and decision-making for maintaining the safety, utility and appearance of RVU Utah.
  2. Keep records of inspections and maintenance records of all safety systems within RVU Utah.
  3. Assist in creating a schedule of regular evaluations of the facility, and regular maintenance.
  4. Makes recommendations for improvements and modifications associated with the custodial staff.
  5. Assist in scheduling the work of outside contractors and vendors, specifically, plumbing, lighting, door closers, and security related issues, including inspection and completion.
  6. Monitor and maintain Lighting schedule while providing support and backup to the Sr. Technician, with the maintenance of the HVAC management system.
  7. Submit requests to the Manager of Facilities and Grounds, for maintenance projects.
  8. Assist the Manager and all technicians in developing and maintaining a plan for 24-7 coverage relating to building usage, custodial, grounds, maintenance, safety and emergencies.
  9. Oversee the usage of facilities by RVU Utah personnel/groups and organizations within the university: set-ups, take-downs, and clean-up.
  10. Oversee landscaping issues and scheduling.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Marginal Job Functions

  1. Assist administration, faculty and staff in special projects as needed under the direction of the Manager.
  2. Continue education programs through plumbing and lighting vendors, keeping RVU Utah up to code standards related to plumbing and lighting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Good organizational skills – ability to assess processes and follow up.
  2. Excellent communication skills
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  4. Demonstrate professional demeanor.
  5. Ability to work with confidential material with discretion and a high level of attention to detail.
  6. Ability to multi-task and problem solve.
  7. Must be able to work effectively in a team-based diverse environment.
  8. Demonstrate effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  9. Ability to perform repetitive motion and capable of lifting up to 70 lbs.
  10. Ability to ascend and descend ladders of various heights.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma  
  2. 1 - 2 years of experience in maintenance and/or facilities duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Some college in construction management, electrical, HVAC, plumbing or other facility related subjects.
  2. Experience with the maintenance and monitoring of a facility operating system.
  3. Familiar with Net2/Paxton controls or similar system.
