Primary Purpose

The Accounting Manager is responsible for assisting in the effective and efficient operation of the accounting department to ensure the timely recording of all transactions across multiple campus locations and accurate consolidated financial reporting.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Oversees and manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger accounting functions ensuring transactions are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  2. Supervise accounting staff including review of journal entries, cash receipt entries, account reconciliations, and other deliverables prepared by accounting staff across multiple campuses.
  3. Approve all invoice and payment requests for accounts payable processing.
  4. Prepare and review account reconciliations.
  5. Preparation of the monthly consolidated balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement, and other financial reports for management.
  6. Assists in the development of written procedures for accounting functions that are consistent with approved University policies and conformance with GAAP.
  7. Works with the Vice President of Finance and Controller to develop internal control systems and metrics to ensure that assets are properly safeguarded, transactions are properly recorded, and financial reporting is accurate and timely.
  8. Development of the annual and month-end closing processes and schedule.
  9. Prepares audit schedules and analysis required for the effective completion of the audit.
  10. Cooperate with Student Financial Services to accurately run student charges and refund students timely and in accordance with applicable federal guidelines.
  11. Assists in the preparation and filing of IRS forms 1098T, 1099-Misc. and other required forms.
  12. Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
  13. Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Finance and Controller.
  14. Complies with University policies, procedures, and administrative directives.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger accounting.
  2. Knowledge of GAAP.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  4. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  5. Ability to work in a multi-cultural team-based setting.
  6. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or substantial progress towards a degree.
  2. A minimum of five years of experience in accounting roles with increasing responsibility.
  3. Experience with mid-range accounting software.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in Accounting and/or Certified Public Accountant.
  2. Public accounting experience.
  3. Supervisory experience.
