Primary Purpose

This position has the primary responsibility for collaboration across academic and faculty matters on both Colorado and Utah campuses. The individual is accountable for key areas relating to RVUCOM including, but not limited to: fulfilling the mission and vision of the COM educational programs, strategic planning, department budget and expenditures, educational outcomes, program review and accreditation, creative activity, quality assessment, policies and procedures, compliance with external requirements.

 

Reports to the Dean of RVUCOM. Works collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Clinical Education, the Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness, the Assistant Dean of Preclinical Assessment and Assistant Dean of Preclinical Curriculum.

 

Direct Reports include: COM Academic Department Chairs, and the Administrative Assistant report to this position.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Primary responsibility for the COM’s core educational programs, in collaboration with the Dean and Associate Dean of Clinical Education.
  2. Advance the evidence-based implementation of curricular design and delivery methods, and updating curricular content.
  3. Directly supervise the Chairs of COM Academic departments, and an administrative assistant.
  4. Build a culture that respects, values and promotes diversity by recruiting, hiring and retaining diverse talent within an atmosphere of access, equity and inclusion.
  5. Facilitate communication and collaboration between the Utah and Colorado campuses.
  6. Provide leadership for faculty on both the Utah and Colorado campuses.
  7. Provide leadership to the Chairs of the academic departments, including regular meetings and leadership development.
  8. Work collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Clinical Education to develop and maintain a seamless, integrated educational experience OMS1-4.
  9. Conduct regular evaluation of COM curricula in conjunction with the COM Dean and Associate Dean of Clinical Education.
  10. Manage the budget for the Preclinical department.
  11. Work with the Dean and other COM and University leaders to ensure that the COM meets accreditation standards and requirements set by various accrediting bodies, regional or specialized; ensures compliance with local, state and federal
  12. Maintain the University’s commitments to academic freedom, diversity, equity, and inclusion, integrity, ethics, as well as its commitment to excellence and integration of osteopathic philosophy and principles in all of the COM’s teaching, research, and service
  13. Provide leadership for the faculty in COM program assessment, including faculty development in course, curriculum, and assessment mapping.
  14. Teaching and clinical responsibilities as necessary and/or as indicated.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. D. O. degree from an American Osteopathic Association-Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOA-COCA) accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine.
  2. License to practice osteopathic medicine from a US state, to remain current and have always been in good standing.
  3. Board Certification from the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), to remain current and in good standing during service.
  4. Multiple years of teaching medical students in predoctoral education, graduate medical education, or equivalent.
  5. Prior experience supervising faculty in positions such as an Assistant Dean or department Chair or its equivalent in academic or non academic settings within predoctoral medicine, graduate medical education, or equivalent.
  6. Ability to travel to and work on both Colorado and Utah campuses.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in education, public health and/or business.
  2. Professional involvement and positions of leadership within the osteopathic profession, its associations, and organizations.
  3. Experience in integrated curricula and active adult learning formats promoting a professional learner-centered environment.
  4. Experience with evidence based medicine, scholarly activities, publishing, scientific research, writing, and evaluation and management of grants.
  5. Excellent written ,verbal and listening
  6. Ability to work in a collegial environment with superiors (e.g., President and Board of Trustees), as well as with colleagues at the COM and Deans of other RVU colleges and divisions which may be established.
