Primary Purpose

The Assistant Dean of Clinical Education & GME is a principal administrator and leader of the MCOM academic program for the clinical years responsible for developing, managing, and improving clinical curriculum delivery and assessments. This position collaborates with other RVU programs and departments to align the curriculum across all years. This position is also responsible for the supervision and professional development of the employees within his/her reporting structure.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Provide leadership oversight, direction and guidance for planning, developing and implementing the MCOM clinical curriculum.
  2. Provide leadership to team in developing and maintaining positive relationships with community physicians and health care leaders in Montana and surrounding regions to increase and enhance clinical training opportunities for students.
  3. Provide leadership and support for graduate medical education development and enhancement with sponsoring institutions, hospitals, and other stakeholders. 
  4. Provide leadership to team with regular feedback, assessments and performance evaluations. Assist in recruiting, developing, advancing and retaining faculty and staff.
  5. Help build a culture that respects, values, and promotes diversity by recruiting, hiring, and retaining diverse talent within an atmosphere of access, equity, and inclusion.
  6. Work collaboratively to develop and execute strategies to ensure that budgets, policies, and procedures are followed.
  7. Work collaboratively with leaders of other internal departments, institutions, and other stakeholders to ensure the mission of RVU and MCOM are met in accordance with our core values. 
  8. Ensure relevant academic standards are met as per accreditation requirements of the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation.
  9. Serve as an active participant on committees or task forces or other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Marginal Job Functions

  1. Assist administration, faculty and staff in special projects as required.
  2. Act as liaison between MCOM, the professional community, other educational institutions and organizations as indicated and directed by the Dean.
  3. Participate in relevant and appropriate community and professional outreach activities on behalf of the college and the university.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and experience specifically in regards to undergraduate medical education.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of core competencies, Entrustable Professional Activities, and other medical educational milestones.
  3. Demonstrate time management and organizations skills while on-campus and off-campus during clinical site visit travels.
  4. Demonstrate ability to address problems appropriately and efficiently.
  5. Demonstrate excellent communication skills and established experience in public speaking and writing.
  6. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers, electronics, and software (Microsoft products, PDF, etc.) commensurate with the modern work environment.
  7. Demonstrate proficiency and professionalism in video conferencing, speaking, and teaching.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Terminal degree: D.O. or M.D. degree earned from an AOA or LCME accredited medical school.  
  2. An active medical license.
  3. AOA or ABMS board certification

Preferred Qualifications

  1. At least five years of experience in medical education.
  2. Experience with college accreditations.
  3. Experience in personnel and budget management.
  4. Experience in standardized testing and assessment.
  5. Involvement with state or national organizations.
  6. Clinical experience in patient care settings
