SALARY AND BENEFITS: The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

 

The salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

 

Vice Chair duties receive stipend of $12,500 annually added to base salary.

Primary Purpose

The primary mission of the Vice Chair of CAOPP is to work collaboratively with the RVUCOM CAOPP Department Chair to advance the teaching and training of students; the development and advancement of the faculty; and to represent the Southern Utah (SU) campus CAOPP faculty and staff, and student perspectives to build a cohesive and integrated department within the COM.

 

The Vice Chair of CAOPP reports to the Chair of CAOPP. The direct reports to this position include the CAOPP faculty members on the SU campus and the CAOPP administrative assistant on the SU campus.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Provide leadership, oversight, and supervision to the faculty and staff of the RVUCOM-SU Campus Department of CAOPP.
  2. Assist the Department Chair of CAOPP in preparing and/or performing formal evaluations for all faculty and staff in the department.
  3. Assist the Department Chair of CAOPP in preparing financial and budgetary plans and help oversee expenditures of the department in coordination with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs or its equivalent.
  4. Provide mentorship to all faculty in the department.
  5. Participate as a member of the RVUCOM-SU leadership team in University and College meetings.
  6. Help convene and/or preside over department meetings in conjunction with the Department Chair of CAOPP.
  7. Anticipate human resource needs for the department and when the need arises, coordinate the recruiting and interview process for new faculty and staff and make recommendation for hire to the Department Chair of CAOPP and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs or its equivalent.
  8. Provide feedback and participate in the assessment or evaluation of faculty and staff as part of the University’s ongoing quality improvement processes.
  9. Demonstrate the highest standard of professionalism and ethical behavior in all aspects of personal and professional actions and performance.
  10. Demonstrate and role model an ongoing ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and support staff.
  11. Participate in scholarly activity which includes publications and local and national presentations representing the University and the COM.
  12. Build a culture that respects, values, and promotes diversity by recruiting, hiring, developing, and retaining diverse talent within an atmosphere of access, equity, and inclusion.
  13. Other duties as assigned by the Dean’s Office or the President’s Office.

Marginal Job Functions

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Demonstrate leadership skills, delegation skills, and time management skills
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the delivery of medical education
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of varied curriculum templates
  4. Demonstrate ability to mentor and motivate students and peers

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Terminal degree (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Medical Doctor Degree, PhD) with current Board Certification in appropriate area of specialization if applicable.
  2. Three (3) years academic experience at a university level.
  3. Demonstrated leadership and productivity in the areas of clinical or professional service, scholarly activity, medical research or education.
  4. Good standing with all regulatory and governmental boards and agencies.
  5. Eligible for coverage by University’s malpractice insurer if applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience in clinical, professional or educational settings.
  2. Three (3) years academic experience as a full time faculty member at a Medical School, College of Osteopathic Medicine, or as a full time faculty member in a Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine residency program.
